3D printable terrain drop imminent!
brutal cities studio november update
G'day everyone,
Behind me, a blessed additive manufactorium machine toils away endlessly...on some lovely new Brutalist 3d printable terrain designs! (update - they are live now here!)
The smaller version I'm printing right now.
3D printing journey
I've had a crash course the last couple of weeks on 3D printing. I had purchased a Prusa MK3s+ with some after market mods back in Feburary last year.
Soon to be trusty 3D printing workshorse - I'm still fine tuning my settings.
But the last year or so has been pretty full on, so until now I hadn't a chance to even set it up! Since then technology as moved rapidly so the Prusa MK3s is no longer the coolest kid on the block (but still very reliable and a good machine, I believe!) I've ordered another printer to get stuff done faster - the Bambu Labs A1.
I'll probably upgrade the MK3s to a MK3.5s if all goes to plan - I can't really fit more than 2 printers anyway (My studio/games room is still flush with the last of the stock I made before moving of the workshop.)
The process of finding the best balance of speed, detail and avoiding things like 'spider webs' is still ongoing.
I'm using Esun ePLA+HS filament currently. It's a bit stringy still, but reducing the nozzle temperature to 195 degrees celsius seems to have helped a bit.
I'm still working out my software workflow, but fingers crossed Brutal Cities releases will be a lot quicker soon.
The first couple of designs are just about done. I have started small and reworked the 6mm Vantann Office building design over from 2D to a .STL file.
Let me know what you think in the comments please!
You can see the stringy cobwebs. This filament has been sitting out for a year and a half so it's probably full of moisture. Mind you, the brand new filament from Esun is also quit stringy so far.
This will be available to purchase later this week - and as a giveaway to email subscribers who helped me out with the 3D printing survey that's still running. (still time to enter!)
Next year, I have big plans to bring more designs, new and old out to you guys. And an exciting collaboration which will be right up your alley.
cancon 2025 - brutal cities will be there
If you're in Australia and into the tabletop miniature hobby - Come down to Cancon!
25th to 27th January 2025 at Epic Exhibition Park in Canberra. More details here.
I'll be down there running the Brutal Cities trade stall again, which was a tonne of fun this year. Very tiring too - but it was really lovely to meet old customers and meet new people and have a yarn about terrain.
Stay tuned for the drop this week.
All the best,
Ryan
